HSUS Aiming to Destroy Animal Agriculture
Editor:
I have read, with much consternation, the exchanges Lancaster Farming had with one Paul Shapiro of the HSUS in recent issues. This group and the terrorist group PETA are in lockstep to eliminate animal agriculture.
Their veganism fuels an agenda of animal activism that is only sustainable by their left-wing promotions to eliminate domestic service from animal agriculture.
I have been a veterinarian for 46 years, 41 of which have been associated with animal agriculture as a practicing veterinarian and continuing with my beef cattle herd at the present. I still enjoy my daily practice with small animal species. The claim that cage birds are suffering is certainly one of the lies these leftist liberals are promoting. They convinced the hair brain liberal voters in California to pass the idiotic Proposition 2 law so that there can no longer be a profitable poultry industry in that state. Cage birds have no issues with cage confinement as long as they have fresh feed and water and proper ventilation. For these accommodations, they produce an abundance of fresh eggs daily.
Welfare poultry of the HSUS brand must compete for their food, avoid attacks of flock mates and endure the ravages of predators. Show me a well fed bird or animal, protected from disease, and I will show you a happier animal than HSUS can promote, no matter the accommodations. I hope the Ohio voters are up to voting down the present attempts by HSUS to subordinate animal agriculture to their lies. “Just eliminate animal agriculture!”
As for sow crates, nobody should relish seeing the carnage that is innocently imposed on cute little piglets by an innocent sow who simply lies down for rest, unaware that some of her piglets are being crushed under her weight. The crates are protection for the young and avoid the carnage that HSUS promotes. “Just eliminate animal agriculture!”
HSUS promoted the congressional legislation to eliminate horse slaughter in the United States, but provides no accommodations for all of the unwanted horses being abandoned on private and public lands. They killed more than 29,000 dogs in a recent year because they provide no shelters for any of the animals they claim to be protecting. “Just eliminate animal agriculture!”
The public should support their local humane societies, but not these lying irresponsible animal activists, intent on destroying animal agriculture. They should be known henceforth as the “Inhumane” Society of the United States.
