National Guernsey Convention Sale Has $59,000 Top Seller

RICHARDSON, Texas — Thirty females averaged $5,003 in the 2009 National Guernsey Convention Sale, held July 12 in Richardson, Texas. 65 total embryos averaged $435 each. The sale was held in the main theatre of the Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts. The stage, usually reserved for serious theatrical and musical performances, was host to an elite offering of the nation’s finest Guernseys.
Topping the sale was Moziers Lux Anne of Lavon Farms, EX-92. Lux Anne was the reserve grand champion of World Dairy Expo in 2007 and grand champion at Louisville the same year. She is among the top 100 index cows in the breed and sold with a bull contract to Select Sires. She has an EX-91 dam and her maternal pedigree produced the previously active AI sire Blackwater Lord Amen. She was named All-American in 2006 and 2007. She brought a bid of $59,000 from Springville Farm of Emory, Texas. She was consigned by Lavon Farms of Plano, Texas, and Gary Estes of Rogersville, Missouri.
A first choice female from Cedar Fringed Altann, EX-95, commanded the second high bid of $8,700. Altann is the dam of the top two active AI sires in the breed and has nearly 170,000 milk lifetime. She was the grand champion of World Dairy Expo in 2000 and has six Excellent and six Very Good daughters. Buyers Dan Weness and Tracy Nelson of Owatonna, Minn., will have their choice of a Yogi or Loral daughter born in October. The choice was consigned by Snider Homestead of New Enterprise, Pa.
Rounding out the top three sellers on the day was Springhill J Lone Star-ET, a young bull sired by Coulee Crest Luxury Spider-ET. His dam is Dix Lee Tiller Joke-ET, EX-90, a former All-American and top-10 index cow. Her top record exceeds 1,100F and nearly 800P. The next four dams are Very Good or Excellent. Joke was the top seller in the 2007 National Guernsey Sale at $23,600. The bull was purchased by The Lone Star Syndicate and Golden State Breeders of Escalon, California, for $8,300. He was consigned by Springhill Farm of Big Prairie, Ohio.
The National Guernsey Convention Sale was managed by Guernsey Marketing Service and the Texas Guernsey Breeders. Joe Don Pogue of Sulphur Springs, Texas, was the auctioneer. Murray Reissner of Ontario read pedigrees while Blaine Crosser, Mike Weimer, Tanner Ragan and Jim Trotter took bids from the large crowd assembled in the theatre. The animals were presented by Austin Knapp, Tyler Chupp, Sarah Wylie and Kim Lakey. Orion Cattle Services of Ohio headed up the fitting crew.
