HARRISBURG, Pa. — Motivational sharing is one of the key components of the Pa. Dairy Summit, held this year at the Penn Stater Conference Hotel, State College, Pa., on Feb. 12.
"There is always an inspirational speaker who inspires us to go home and challenge ourselves," said Justin Risser, a Bainbridge dairyman and vice chair of 2014 Summit. "It inspires me to push myself."
This year’s speaker is former Penn State football player Adam Taliaferro, who suffered a spinal injury Sept. 23, 2000. Taliaferro made a routine helmet-to-helmet tackle against an Ohio State player during a game and broke his neck. He was given a 3 percent chance of ever walking again.
Today, Taliaferro not only walks, but he walks well, starting incredibly just five months after his injury. He will share his story of recovery and perseverance with dairy producers from throughout the state at the Pa. Dairy Summit.
"Dairying is not for the faint of heart," offered Jennifer Heltzel, chair of the 2014 Summit. "It takes a positive mindset, steadfast determination and a commitment to excellence, and Adam's story exemplifies all of these things."
