STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Holstein breeders and enthusiasts will be warmly welcomed for the 58th Pennsylvania Holstein Convention and 101st Annual Business Meeting,
“The Next 100 Starts Here,” Thursday, Feb. 27-Saturday, March 1 at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center, State College, Pa.
Some highlights and information for the three-day event are as follows:
The 101st Pennsylvania Holstein Annual Meeting will be held from 2:30-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Ramada Inn.
The Annual Awards Dinner and Junior Fun Auction is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. Entertainment for the awards program will be Van Wagner, a Pennsylvania educator who entertains audiences with music and history. His music has been featured on the History Channel, WVIA TV as well as Country Music Television.
Join Holstein breeders from across the state as the tour showcases some of Central Pennsylvania’s most technologically and genetically advanced dairy farms on Friday, Feb. 28, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. One of these operations will be Penn-England LLC. The dairy currently milks around 2,000 cows and crop farms roughly 2,600 acres. Several of the highlights to see at Penn-England are their anaerobic digester, which provides the farm with all of its electricity needs, and of course their herd containing some of the most elite genetics in the breed.
The tour will also feature Penn State’s Pasto Agricultural Museum, on the grounds of the Ag Progress Days event. The museum highlights hundreds of rare farm and home implements from the muscle-power era, before the invention of electricity and gasoline-powered engines.
The Convention Banquet on Friday, Feb. 28, 7 p.m., will recognize the Hall of Fame, Pioneer, Distinguished Supporter and Young Breeder award winners. Entertainment on Friday evening will feature Greg Peterson of the Peterson Brothers, who have taken to social media to tell the farm story through songs and parodies that have been viewed by more than 23 million people in the last year.
The convention will include the commercial exhibits area where you can see the newest in industry technology and visit with industry representatives. The Central District Dairy Bar committee is planning a very special Dairy Bar, featuring many local products.
The convention sale will take place on Saturday, March 1 at the Snider Agriculture Arena on the Penn State University Campus, beginning at 10 a.m. The sale will offer 70 head of cattle, embryo packages, and choices from some of the top genetics and cow families in the United States.
