Md. Princess Diaries: Connecting with Kids About Milk

5/14/2013 8:59 AM

April has come and gone, full of another exciting month of dairy promotions and new experiences. I was pleasantly surprised that Maryland Day at the University of Maryland was very warm; all the Dairy Maids and I soaked up the sun while playing a dairy trivia game with visitors and sharing dairy recipes and fun giveaways with them.

I have also been keeping busy writing letters to schools in hopes of visiting some younger kids’ classes and being able to do some very exciting activities with them. One of the ones I am most looking forward to trying with a group of kids is “Mix it with Milk,” where each student will be able to take a cup of milk and add a spoonful of any flavor Jell-O to it to make fun, colorful flavored milk. Key lime and cherry both seem promising to me!

April showers have finally begun to give way to sun and May flowers and fields are full of green crops, farmers hard at work and cows happily munching the new spring grass.

I’m sure I will enjoy the new season beginning of outdoor dairy promotions, show season and, of course, ice cream!
