South Dakota cattle on feed down 7 percent

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota feedlots with capacities of 1,000 or more animals had 215,000 cattle on feed on June 1, down 7 percent from last year.

The Agriculture Department says in its latest report that placements in feedlots during May totaled 39,000 head, up 11 percent from 2012.

Marketings of fed cattle during the month totaled 4,000 head, down 20 percent over the year.
