BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — A South Dakota State University official has been named to a national biomass research committee.

The Brookings Register (http://bit.ly/12dIYNS) reports that Kevin Kephart was recently appointed to co-chair the Biomass Research and Development Initiative Technical Advisory Committee. The committee assists the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Department of Energy.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Department of Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz appointed Kephart, vice president for research at SDSU, to co-chair the committee in May. Kephart has served on the committee since May 2011.

Former Mississippi Gov. Ronnie Musgrove serves as the other committee co-chair.
