PINEVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Three farmers in southern Kentucky are offering a reward after finding nearly a dozen cattle in their fields fatally shot.

WYMT-TV (bit.ly/XOzINQ) reports the farmers awoke Friday to find at least 10 animals dead and five others missing.

Farmer Carroll Gibbons says it appears those responsible when from field to field picking out "the very best" to kill. He says shotgun shells were found next to some of the dead animals, as well as two sets of four-wheeler tracks.

He says he has no idea why someone would want to hurt the gentle creatures.

The Bell County Sheriff's Department is investigating.

Meanwhile, the farmers are offering $1,000 for information that lead to an arrest and conviction in the case.
