ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (AP) — State officials say a Pasquotank County woman has been sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty to stealing nearly 50 crab pots from other commercial fishermen.

The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reported (http://bit.ly/YcGdxC) that 42-year-old Carla Winslow Dewald pleaded guilty earlier this month to misdemeanor larceny and improper buoys on crab pots.

The Division of Marine Fisheries says Dewald also was ordered to perform 40 hours of community service in 180 days and pay fines, fees, court costs and restitution totaling more than $1,200.

Authorities say Dewald was accused of stealing 48 crab pots from eight people.

The deferred prosecution agreement means all charges will be dropped if she completes all the requirements within a specified period of time.
