LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Using the state's Kentucky Proud logo to indicate Kentucky-bred thoroughbreds in racetrack programs may soon become a permanent fixture.

Horse Racing Commission officials tell The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/10nzHVM ) that a two-day trial using the logo in the Churchill Downs program during the Kentucky Derby was a success.

Dr. David Richardson, who is on the commission, says the logo gives Kentucky-bred thoroughbreds better exposure. In the past, a small horse-head logo was used.

Richardson and David Switzer, executive director of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association, say they are going to visit all the state's racetracks to convince them to use the new logo in their programs.

Switzer says he hopes Churchill Downs will make the change permanent.
