PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginians will soon have another farmers market to shop just in time for the fall and winter season.
State Department of Agriculture Commissioner Walt Helmick said the new farmers market will open Oct. 5 in Parkersburg. It'll be open the first Saturday of the month through April.
The market will be held in what was formerly the Swan Hotel in downtown historic Parkersburg. The building was obtained by the city after they traded a parking lot for the property.
At an event this week, Helmick said West Virginia consumes more than $7 billion of food products annually but only grows half-a-billion.
