Blair County Youths Profit From Junior Livestock Sale

MARTINSBURG, Pa. — The Blair County 4-H/FFA Livestock Show and Sale was Aug. 11-12 at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park. The judge was Ben Williamson, who is an instructor and livestock judging team coach at Penn State.

The 4-H and FFA scholarship recipients were Tiffany Pheasant, Austin McMonagle, Natalie Kipe, Paige Pearson and Nathan Bishop.

The clubs prepare baskets to be sold at the sale, and this year those sales totaled $2,000 to help pay for show and sale expenses.

Jacob Bigelow’s grand champion dairy beef sold for $3.10 a pound to Mill Hill Farm Supply, and Lindsey Kensinger’s reserve champion sold for $2.30 a pound to Cargill Nutrition.

Dairy beef showman winners were Jacob Bigelow, senior; Aden McMonagle, intermediate; Dana Heltzel, junior; and Olivia Knab, first year.

Keller Metzker’s grand champion goat sold for $7.50 a pound to Garry Kensinger, and Emily Long’s reserve champion sold for $3.25 a pound to Imler’s Poultry.

Goat showman winners were Emily Long, senior; Rebecca Stahl, intermediate; Dana Heltzel, junior; and Austin Frye, first year.

Cassandra Michelone’s grand champion lamb sold for $5.50 a pound to Orchard Lane Excavating, and Yvonne Longenecker’s reserve champion sold for $5.50 a pound to Nationwide Insurance.

Lamb showman winners were Paige Pearson, senior; Yvonne Longenecker, intermediate; Adam Uplinger, junior; and Darcy Heltzel, first year.

Kara Stultz’s grand champion swine carcass sold for $4.50 a pound to Delgrosso Foods, and Nick Michelone’s reserve champion carcass sold for $4 a pound to Jason Lynn.

Olivia Dodson’s grand champion swine sold for $4 a pound to Dr. Holly Pheasant-Viscusci, and Alexi McMonagle’s reserve champion sold for $2.60 a pound to Marzoni’s.

Swine showman winners were Caitlyn Fonseca, senior; Cassandra Michelone, intermediate; Tamara Smith, junior; and Madison Benfer, first year.

Alana Ritchey’s grand champion beef sold for $2.60 a pound to Dave and Janet Hileman, and Roger Stock Jr.’s reserve champion sold for $1.85 a pound to Hoss’s corporate office.

Beef showman winners were Tiffany Pheasant, senior; Victoria Longenecker, intermediate; and Tamara Smith, junior.
