Pasture Walk to Feature Small, Diversified Farm

9/7/2013 7:00 AM

LEBANON, Pa. — Learn how one Lehigh County producer has converted crop fields into a rotational grazing system by attending a pasture walk 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, sponsored by the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

The hosts for the pasture walk will be Steve and Leslie Schoeniger of Rainbow Farm, who converted to a beef and poultry grazing operation by seeding cropland with pasture forages and installing perimeter and interior fences.

In addition, animal walkways and a watering system were installed to complete the grazing system. When not on pasture, the cattle are housed in a newly constructed heavy use area.

The group will gather at the farm at 6707 Scholler Road, New Tripoli, Pa. For more information, contact Dan Ludwig at 717/274-2597, ext. 119, or dan.ludwig<\@>
