Dairy Analysis Webinar to Focus on Nutrition

9/7/2013 7:00 AM

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Linda Baker, staff veterinarian of animal production systems for the University of Pennsylvania Field Investigation and the Pennsylvania Animal Diagnostic Laboratory System, and Rebecca White, dairy Extension program manager with Penn State, will lead the seventh of 10 webinars associated with the Pennsylvania Dairy Futures Analysis.

Baker and White will discuss nutritional strategies that dairy producers can employ to achieve a 4-5 pound increase in milk production, which is one of several prescriptions identified in the analysis to strengthen individual dairy farms and the broader industry.

The analysis was a joint project of the Center for Dairy Excellence, Penn State Extension Dairy Team, University of Pennsylvania New Bolton Center and St. Joseph’s University School of Food Marketing to look at trends in the state’s dairy industry and offer prescriptions to foster growth and revitalize the industry.

The webinar is planned for 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13. Recordings of the first six webinars are available at www.centerfordairyexcellence.org. Click on “Dairy Information,” then on “PA Dairy Futures Analysis,” to access the recordings.
